Beaches of South Sardinia

Speaking about Sardinia, the first thing that comes to mind is the sea and the beaches and … let’s face it, the North is more known and “inflated”. But to dispel this myth, today, we take you to visit the most suggestive beaches of South Sardinia and we will convince you that Sardinian coast have a common denominator: all make you feel in PARADISE!
We start our virtual tour with “Su Giudeu” whose name seems to derive from the octopus, locally named “Pruppu Giudeu” because, like a Jew stuck to his possessions, remain clinging to the rock. From the beach is possible reach on foot, especially in ebb tide’s days, the homonymous islet that give its name to the beach. Climbing to the top you can admire the limitless dune field that was formed during the last ice age, when very strong cold winds blew on our island. The fine white sand and the crystal clear waters don’t have anything to envy to the most famous Caribbean beaches.
Then we move a little to the South and we find the small “Cala Cipolla” where small is only its extension. Try to look out among junipers that surround the cove and not to exclaim “Wonderful”. Its name could derive from its form, similar to an ampoule or an onion, but another tale tell that this name derive from a man called “Simone Xibudda” (“Xibudda” in sardinian language means onion) who shipwrecked in the early twentieth century. The short walk that the people are forced to do to access it, does not discourage the countless people who visit it and, to take place, it’s convenient going very early or in low season. Try to give a few hours in the shave of a centuries-old junipers and tell us what is your thoughts.
Proceeding toward south, we find what we consider one of the pearls of Sardinia. We are talking about Tuerredda. Its take his name from the island in front of it, which is due to the particular shape of the double arch of the beach. The fine white sand covers an area of about 450 meters and the whole beach is surrounded by typical Mediterranean vegetation. In the less warmer months the flowering mimosas, rushes and junipers make, of this pearl, a corner of paradise. We suggest you a visit in the months of June or September to avoid the crowd present in the rest of the season.
Last stage, but only because we wanted to start with a small taste, is the beach of “Piscinnì”, whose name is due to Spanish lookout tower that dominate the promontory adjoining Capo di Piscinnì. The beach is not many frequented during the peak season because don’t have many services, but it is the ideal destination for lover of surfing, diving and anyone who loves sunbathing in an wild environment and in completely relax. A particularity of this small beach, that can be admire only in the spring season, is the presence of a small family of cows who come here to enjoy the sea breeze and a corner of peace that only here they can find!
